Minted in the shape of a ingot cross-section in honor of its humble beginnings, this is an iron drab, one of the coins produced by Shire Post Mint to showcase the history of Ceald currency in The Kingkiller Chronicle. Author Patrick Rothfuss is a complete geek for coins, proven by these drabs and their story.
This Cealdish Iron Drab is struck from solid iron, measures 3 cm in diameter, and weighs about 29.6 grams. It features a simple stamp of a mountain and lake, the symbol of Ceald. (Coin artwork by Tom Maringer.)
The product is treated to look as if it has been handled and circulated. This process is done by hand, and it is both an art and a science, so coloring and patinas will vary. No two are exactly the same! Coins are struck one at a time in the USA using antique machinery and traditional coining techniques.
