These coins are struck by hand in West Fork Arkansas USA, using a Waterbury Knuckle press at 65 tons of pressure on an 8 gram teardrop shaped blank of (bronze or brass). The design features a head of wheat in cupped hands and a flaming tower.
Patrick Rothfuss was born in Madison, Wisconsin to awesome parents. After nine years at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, he accidentally had enough credits to graduate with an English degree. Patrick then went to grad school. He’d rather not talk about it.
In March 2007, The Name of the Wind was published and met with surprising success. In the years since, it has been translated into 30 languages, won all manner of awards, and become a bestseller in several countries. After a great deal of work and a few raised eyebrows from his patient editor, Wise Man’s Fear came out in March 2011, immediately hitting #1 on the New York Times Bestseller list. When not working on the third book of the series, Pat plays with his kiddos, makes mead, and runs Worldbuilders, a geek-centered charity that has raised more than a million dollars for Heifer International. Shire Post Mint is a small, family-run coining operation located in Arkansas, USA specializing in licensed fantasy coinage, but they make lots of other things too.
Shire Post Mint began in 2001 when Tom bought his first antique coin press. He had a passion for coin collecting since his childhood and his years of knife-making gave him metalworking knowledge that he used to start making coins. The techniques used of hand-engraving steel dies and pressing one at a time are the same used in the 1800s and earlier. After a few years of research, refinement and building a small following online, his work caught the eye of George R.R. Martin, who was interested in having coins made from his new series of books, A Song of Ice and Fire.
